"Celer et Vigilans" (Swift and Vigilant). Motto of the Maverick battalion.
The paths between the different positions of the USARF are designated "routes" because they cannot be called roads. Forget about asphalt, in the Ariadnan Exclusion Zone you'll find trodden pathways: the definition of irregular surfaces, poor traction, and precarious visibility due to the dust. It's a death trap for those from the city who love speed. But not for us; we are Mavericks. We live free there. The routes are our natural environment and domain. All out is the only way for us. We launch ourselves into the middle of trouble at full throttle and make a clean escape. Speed is our best armor and our best weapon. We are like a boomerang, the USARF throws us ahead of their convoys to hit and return. We are always in the vanguard, without cover or air support, speeding through these routes, which are ideal for an ambush, to track down any hostile element and eliminate it before it can attack our boys. Advanced recon means that we never know what we will find around the next bend in the road. The enemy can be anywhere. Each day may be the last in this battalion. There is no second chance for us because if we fall, we do so in the midst of the enemy and far from any support or rescue. The stakes are high when you dedicate yourself to the advanced escort, but we Mavericks like to gun it and raise them even higher.
