- While the Renault R35 was intended to fight alongside the Char B1, a faster light tank was required to accompany the Somua S35, this was the Hotchkiss H35, however its short 37mm SA-18 gun has poor anti-tank capability
- A longer 37mm SA-38 gun was developed, and by May 1940 they had enough to begin upgrading guns
- The Hotchkiss H39 improves on the H35 with a new more powerful 120 hp engine giving it the speed it requires for its role as a cavalry tank
- Like the H35, the new long gun is also fitted to the H39 improving its combat power greatly
- Contains 5x plastic H35 / H39 Hotchkiss tanks
